I couldn't find a plug-in and the struck me as funny ... I couldn't possibly be the only one that wanted to have witty "read on" oneliners.

I took to the sourcecode and found out that you can actually just add your own "more" text to the more tag. Guess that makes sense. But in case you're wondering, here's the gist.

HTML files seemed to work just fine, but any of the scripted pages refused to work and threw a 500 internal server error.

After some digging around, it seems that WordPress had tried to modify the .htaccess file and partially succeeded. I had a Options -indexes in there. In fact, that was the only line in there.

After Wordpress installed, the file read


-indexes #BEGIN WORDPRESS
#END WORDPRESS

I'm not sure why the Options part was gone, but it was.
